A Bream Deferred.

What happens to a bream deferred?
Will it fry up
Like a fritter set to stun?
Or fester all the more–
And fork-pierced, run?
Does it sink, forgotten, neat?
Or crust and blister over–
rising in the syruped heat?
Maybe it just lags
like a rotten load.
I hope it won’t explode.
